People are forced to leave their homes. Different times, different nations, different people, different reasons. History repeats itself. Again, again, again.... Being a refugee is not a choice. These are the circumstances that throw you out of the familiar life cycle. Another reality is to escape and survive.  The reality, where the general everyday concepts acquire a universal almost sacred meaning. The landmark in this temporary reality is an icon, a graphic symbol-message.

Olena Turyanska offers to pay our attention to the question: How many symbols, that concern the information about the possibilities to help the victims of the military, natural, political, religious, social, other cataclysms, had the humanity to add during the last 153 years. From the moment of the appearing the first pictogram – The Red Cross (1864, Geneva). Outside of the frames of the misfortune and in the carefree space of touristic city – the laconic black-white tables provoke an emotional contact the reality with historical context. At the same time, they remind how fragile is everyone’s peace in the modern world. The gold facilitates reading the universal signs of the faith supporting in the pragmatic ABC of the international help.

Aestheticization of tautology.

Aestheticization reminds that art is only art. The only thing that it can is to urge for reflection, to remind, to guide.

Should it?
Can it?
Must it?

Sign- pictogram has the underlying goal; it is a representation of retelling of the specific information. To read this sign, we have to accept the rule: a troublesome structure of our way to discover the world is a part of the simple sign. Are we a part of the chosen convention? Do we modify it according to our experiences? What shall we do if the convention strange for us is, but, at the same time, the meaning we have to read? The message can save a life. We have to be able to read it.
