COLOURED ICONS. Icons from Ukraine Carpathians (private collections)

/ 11.12.2012—14.01.2013 /

The hectic world today gives us little time for comfort, for a sense of domestic tranquility, and for silent reflection. Nostalgia allows us to look for refuge in children\'s memories from the past, where we were free from worry. Home icons are bright, warm windows into an idealized world.

In this festive Christmas time when everyone wants to feel the atmosphere and comfort of home, Iconart Gallery presents a new exhibition entitled COLOURED ICONS.” The home icons painted on wooden boards from the Hutsul, Pokuttya and Bukovyna regions of Ukraine all come to us from private collections. The goal of this exhibition is to bring attention to the unusual phenomenon of home icons painted on wood, from Ukrainian Carpathians.

In addition to the current exhibition COLOURED ICONS, Iconart Gallery recently presented, as a part of the Lviv Christmas project From Roman to Jordan,” works by young artists from Lviv, with each artist, in their own way, consciously echoing the work of folk masters.
