Olya Kravchenko Audiovisual Project "In a Circle"

Life in the familiar cycle that was interrupted for us...

Before, there were seasons of the year, times of day, holidays, and traditions; everything repeated itself, had its rhythm, and created a sense of comfort and confidence in the future. We moved through space and time as if following coordinates. Due to war, we lost these coordinates and, with them, the sensations that gave meaning to the movement of life. As a symbol of the movement of life, the circle allows us to visualize what was lost, filling it with tradition and restoring life's rhythms with renewed strength to continue our existence.

Through the language of song and painting, four ancient ritual songs have come to life, praising the four seasons - some of the most crucial points of our life's coordinates. Their visualized images have turned into colours and symbols in the paintings of Ola Kravchenko. At the same time, the melodies sung by Maria Oneshchak, combined with electronic experiments by Oles Koval, have opened up an entire universe where, upon immersion, the meanings of life are restored.

The idea of the "Transition" installation was drawn from Petro Shekerik-Donikiv’s book about the beliefs of the Hutsuls, who believed that the keys to the four seasons, each in their time, are held by four Saints - St. Nicholas, St. George, St. Peter, and St. Demetrius. The installation came to life through the efforts and technical solutions of Vasyl Kalitsynskyi.
